General Questions
How does Real Christian Singles offer their service for free?
As they say, "Nothing is free," but it is free to you. RealChristianSingles.com cost money to run, maintain and develop. We are able to recoup some expenses through the ads that run throughout the site. Another way that RealChristianSingles.com is financially supported is through the sell of books at our bookstore. If you have a website or blog, please add a link to http://www.realchristiansingles.com to help others learn about us.

Why did I receive an email from RCS telling me I had a message but when I got to the site there was no message?
That's most likely because we are protecting you. Sometimes a spammer will get past us and send you a message. Because we are always on the ball, and because members help us, we delete accounts that send spam or inappropriate content. After we delete that spammer's account, all the messages they sent out disappear. But because our system already sent you an email telling you about the message, we can't "unsend" your notification. Another reason this happens is because a member sent you a message but later decided they didn't want to contact you afterall and so they went to their "sent folder" and deleted their message to you.
Why do some members not post pictures/photographs?
Some members want to keep their pictures private and do not post pictures on Real Christian Singles. But just because you see a cartoon picture in their profile description doesn't mean they haven't put any pictures in their "photo gallery." Be sure to check their photo gallery and if all else fails, ask them to send you a picture. Be sure to visit your own photo gallery to upload pictures of yourself--you're likely to meet more people that way.

I'm getting a message that my picture is too big to be placed in my photo album. How do I resize it?
Though this will very rarely happen, we offer an online picture-resizing tool that's very easy to use. Click here if you want to use that tool.
What's the best way to get started at Real Christian Singles?
Participating at the message forum is the absolute best way to meet Christian singles. The forum consists of discussion on relationships, the Bible, men, women, current events, sports, products and life in general. We also have an article you'll want to check out entitled How To Meet People On RealChristianSingles.com.

What if I receive a message from someone asking me for money or in some other way violates the rules?
We try very hard to keep this website free of spammers, scammers and ungodly people, but occasionally they creep in. As a concerned member, you can help us keep this a friendly, fun and encouraging place by reporting offending activity. If you receive a message that you think violates RCS standards, please send us the username of the account that sent the message along with the text of their message at our contact page. Remember, never send money to members who tell you hard-luck stories and never send sensative information such as bank account or credit-card numbers to members. There are numerous incidents on all types of websites where someone asks for money, gets the money from another user, and then disappears. Don't be fooled by such scams! Someone who asks for money is a scammer and should be reported so that we can remove their account and ban their computer from revisiting Real Christian Singles. After you report them to us, please report their email address to spam@uce.gov or if they are using a Yahoo.com email address also send their email address and the story to abuse@yahoo.com.
What if I'm already in a dating or courtship relationship? Can I still be a member of Real Christian Singles?
By "single" we mean people who are not married. Christians who are dating or in courtship relationships are welcome to participate in message forum discussions and send messages to other members to build friendships.
What if I see an advertisement on this site that I think is inappropriate?
Because we are part of an ad network, we do not choose the ads that run on this site, but we can filter inappropriate ones out. So if you see an ad you feel is inappropriate, please use our contact page to tell us the name and URL of the offending site and the title of the ad.
How do I use the member search option?
The member search allows you to search for as few or as many attributes as you wish in seeking a member of the opposite sex. The more detailed you are, the fewer matches you'll likely get. The fewer details you select, the more matches you'll receive. We want to remind you that while it's important to find someone who is compatible with you, it's also important to keep in mind that sometimes, as they say, opposites attract. So don't go overboard in trying to find the perfect person. God does not limit us to one perfect person whom we may or may not ever find. There are many people in the world that are compatible with us thanks to God's wonderful design.
Can I continue to use Real Christian Singles if I am dating someone?
Yes. RealChristianSingles.com is not just a community to find romantic partners. It is a support group for singles trying to live the Christian life. Our message forums are a great place to discuss relationships, current events, theology, the Bible, sports and other topics. As long as you are not married, you are welcome to use this website to discuss life, make friends, keep in touch with friends and support other single Christians even if you are not looking for a significant other. So if you aren't a member yet and had this question, you are most welcome to register for our free service.
How can I view my profile as other members would view it?
Go to your user home page and next to your picture you'll see a "View Your Profile" link.
How can I delete my profile?
To delete your account send an email to support AT realchristiansingles.com. The reason we ask for an email to be sent rather than provide an outright button to click is because in the past people have left their computers signed on and someone else has gone in and deleted their account as a prank or due to complete ignorance. Requiring a specific email to be sent allows for less abuse and fewer people asking what happened to their missing accounts. But before you make a decision about leaving, please read, "How to Meet People on RealChristianSingles.com." And, if you're leaving because you don't think there's enough people listed in your area, consider that you lose nothing by staying because this is a free service and, what if you were to leave the day before a great person from your area joins who you might have had a lot in common with and would have enjoying getting to know? If people leave when there aren't many people listed from their area then that area will never have many people listed. Also remember that this is more than a dating site. Our discussion forum community is regularly listed as a favorite feature of members. Rather than just try to find dates, the forum community allows for Christian singles to grow, learn, build friendships with either gender and have fun. It's a great place to fellowship and some have compared it to an online church or social club. Just some things to consider before you delete your account.

Login and Registration Issues
Why can't I log in?
You must register in order to log in to the our personals section and the forums. If you have registered, you cannot login until after we have approved your account. You must verify your email address FIRST and then we will review your account. Approval time usually takes 48 hours but could take as many as 5 days or more if we have a large registration volume or are delayed in approving your account because of failure to follow directions, typos, and other things that require additional review of an account.

Have you been banned from our site? (A message will be displayed if you have.) If so, you should contact us to find out why. If you have registered and are not banned and you still cannot log in then check and double-check your username and password. Usually this is the problem; if not, see the answer to the question I registered but cannot login that is listed below.

Question
Why do I need to register at all?
Registering allows you to save information on the site and helps others have a way to contact you. It also helps us keep some spam and junk off the site.
Question
Why do I get logged off automatically?
We've found that AOL users occasionally experience this type of problem. We have thousands of AOL users and they have found that using the Internet Explorer browser alleviates this issue completely (if you are using a PC, you should be able to open Internet Explorer from your Start Menu or Desktop). You'll need to be signed on to AOL to use Internet Explorer if AOL is your Internet Service Provider.

If you are using the MOZILLA FIREFOX browser and having this problem you need to delete your cookies for the site. To do this, go to Tools, located at the top of your browser and select Options. Next select Privacy. Then click on the button that says, Show Cookies. From there you scroll down to locate the record for RealChristianSingles.com and click Remove Cookies. You should then be able to login. This is usually the issue for FireFox users.

Question
How do I prevent my username from appearing in the online user listings?
In your profile you will find an option Hide your online status; if you switch this on you'll only appear to board administrators or to yourself. You will be counted as a hidden user.
Question
I've lost my password!
Don't panic! Your password can be reset. To do this go to the login page and click I've forgotten my password. Follow the instructions and you should be back online in no time.
Question
I registered but cannot log in!
Remember that after you register you must verify your email address by clicking on the verification link we send you, but that is not all. THEN, we must approve your account before you can login. If you did not receive the verification email then check that it was not mistakenly placed in your junk/spam folder by your email system (AOL, Hotmail and Yahoo are notorious for mistaking our emails as spam or for delaying delivery). If you did not receive an email from us and are sure the email address you used is valid and that our email was not mistaken for spam by your email system, then contact us and provide your username and the details about the issue. If you HAVE received an email from us telling you that we approved your registration but are still having problems logging in, the following will likely resolve your issue.

First check that you are entering the correct username and password. If they are okay then one of two things may have happened: if you clicked the I am under 18 years old link while registering then you will not be allowed to participate and we encourage you to find another website.

If you are using the MOZILLA FIREFOX browser you need to delete your cookies for the site.

Question
I registered in the past but cannot log in anymore!
The most likely reasons for this are: you entered an incorrect username or password (check the email you were sent when you first registered) or the administrator has deleted your account for some reason. If it is the latter case then perhaps you were never active on the site? It is usual for us to periodically remove users who have not logged into the site or posted anything on the forums so as to keep the database full of active users. Try registering again and get involved in discussions on the message forums.

Question

User Preferences and settings
How do I change my settings?
All your settings (if you are registered) are stored in our databases. To alter them click the Profile link (generally shown at the top of pages but this may not be the case). This will allow you to change all your settings.
Question
The times are not correct!
The times are almost certainly correct; however, what you may be seeing are times displayed in a timezone different from the one you are in. If this is the case, you should change your profile setting for the timezone to match your particular area, e.g. London, Paris, New York, Sydney, etc. Please note that changing the timezone, like most settings, can only be done by registered users. So if you are not registered, this is a good time to do so, if you pardon the pun!
Question
I changed the timezone and the time is still wrong!
If you are sure you have set the timezone correctly and the time is still different, the most likely answer is daylight savings time (or summer time as it is known in the UK and other places). The board is not designed to handle the changeovers between standard and daylight time so during summer months the time may be an hour different from the real local time.
Question
My language is not in the list!
The most likely reasons for this are either the administrator did not install your language or someone has not translated this board into your language.
Question
How do I add pictures to my profile?
Go to your User Home Page and click on the Change or Add Photos link under the mock picture. Then click Add New Pictures and select the location of the picture on your computer.

To make one of your pictures show up as your main picture on your profile, go to your User Home Page and click on Change or Add Photos under the mock picture.

Then click Edit under the picture you want to be your main profile picture. Click the box that says Use This Picture As My Forum and Profile Avatar and then click Submit. That picture will show up on your profile page as your main picture.

Question
How do I change my rank?
In general you cannot directly change the wording of any rank (ranks appear below your username in topics and on your profile depending on the style used). We use ranks to identify certain users. For example, moderators and administrators may have a special rank. If you wish to be considered for a moderator position, contact us.
Question
When I click the email link for a user it asks me to log in.
Sorry, but only registered users can send email to people via the built-in email form. This is to prevent malicious use of the email system by anonymous users.
Question

Posting Issues
How do I post a topic in a forum?
Easy -- click the relevant button on either the forum or topic screens. You will need to register before you can post a message. The facilities available to you are listed at the bottom of the forum and topic screens (the You can post new topics, You can vote in polls, etc. list)
Question
How do I edit or delete a post?
Unless you are the board administrator or forum moderator you can only edit or delete your own posts. You can edit a post (for only a limited time after it was made) by clicking the edit button for the relevant post. If someone has already replied to the post, you will find a small piece of text output below the post when you return to the topic that lists the number of times you edited it. This will only appear if no one has replied; it also will not appear if moderators or administrators edit the post (they should leave a message saying what they altered and why). Please note that normal users cannot delete a post once someone has replied.
Question
How do I add a signature to my post?
To add a signature to a post you must first create one; this is done via your profile. Once created you can check the Add Signature box on the posting form to add your signature. You can also add a signature by default to all your posts by checking the appropriate radio box in your profile. You can still prevent a signature being added to individual posts by un-checking the add signature box on the posting form.
Question
How do I create a poll?
Creating a poll is easy -- when you post a new topic (or edit the first post of a topic, if you have permission) you should see a Add Poll form below the main posting box. If you cannot see this then you probably do not have rights to create polls. You should enter a title for the poll and then at least two options -- to set an option type in the poll question and click the Add option button. You can also set a time limit for the poll, 0 being an infinite amount. There will be a limit to the number of options you can list, which is set by an administrator
Back to top
Question
How do I edit or delete a poll?
As with posts, polls can only be edited by the original poster, a moderator, or board administrator. To edit a poll, click the first post in the topic, which always has the poll associated with it. If no one has cast a vote then users can delete the poll or edit any poll option. However, if people have already placed votes only moderators or administrators can edit or delete it; this is to prevent people rigging polls by changing options mid-way through a poll
Back to top
Question
Why can't I access a forum?
Some forums may be limited to certain users or groups. To view, read, post, etc. you may need special authorization which only the forum moderator and board administrator can grant, so you should contact them.
Question
Why can't I vote in polls?
Only registered users can vote in polls so as to prevent spoofing of results. If you have registered and still cannot vote then you probably do not have appropriate access rights.
Question

Formatting and Topic Types
What is BBCode?
BBCode is a special implementation of HTML. Whether you can use BBCode is determined by the administrator. You can also disable it on a per post basis from the posting form. BBCode itself is similar in style to HTML: tags are enclosed in square braces [ and ] rather than < and > and it offers greater control over what and how something is displayed. For more information on BBCode see the guide which can be accessed from the posting page.
Question
Can I use HTML?
That depends on whether the administrator allows you to; they have complete control over it. If you are allowed to use it, you will probably find only certain tags work. This is a safety feature to prevent people from abusing the board by using tags which may destroy the layout or cause other problems. If HTML is enabled you can disable it on a per post basis from the posting form.
Question
What are Smileys?
Smileys, or Emoticons, are small graphical images which can be used to express some feeling using a short code, e.g. :) means happy, :( means sad. The full list of emoticons can be seen via the posting form. Try not to overuse smileys, though, as they can quickly render a post unreadable and a moderator may decide to edit them out or remove the post altogether.
Question
Can I post Images?
Images can indeed be shown in your posts. However, there is no facility at present for uploading images directly to this board. Therefore you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.some-unknown-place.net/my-picture.gif. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor to images stored behind authentication mechanisms such as Hotmail or Yahoo mailboxes, password-protected sites, etc. To display the image use either the BBCode [img] tag or appropriate HTML (if allowed). A good place to upload pictures for use on our forum is PhotoBucket.com
Back to top
Question
What are Announcements?
Announcements often contain important information and you should read them as soon as possible. Announcements appear at the top of every page in the forum to which they are posted. Whether or not you can post an announcement depends on the permissions required, which are set by the administrator.
Question
What are Sticky topics?
Sticky topics appear below any announcements in viewforum and only on the first page. They are often quite important so you should read them where possible. As with announcements the board administrator determines what permissions are required to post sticky topics in each forum.
Question
What are Locked topics?
Locked topics are set this way by either the forum moderator or board administrator. You cannot reply to locked topics and any poll contained inside is automatically ended. Topics may be locked for many reasons.
Question

User Levels and Groups
What are Administrators?
Administrators are people assigned the highest level of control over the entire site and forum. These people can control all facets of board operation which include setting permissions, banning users, creating usergroups or moderators, etc. They also have full moderator capabilities in all the forums.
Question
What are Moderators?
Moderators are individuals (or groups of individuals) whose job it is to look after the running of the forums from day to day. They have the power to edit or delete posts and lock, unlock, move, delete and split topics in the forum they moderate. Generally moderators are there to prevent people going off-topic or posting abusive or offensive material.

Question

Private Messaging
I cannot send private messages!
There are three reasons for this; you are not registered and/or not logged on, the board administrator has disabled private messaging for the entire board, or the board administrator has prevented you individually from sending messages because of a rules violation. If it is the latter case you should try asking the administrator why.
Question
I keep getting unwanted private messages!
We have a feature to block certain users from viewing your profile or sending you a private message. Make sure of this feature.
Question
I have received a spamming or abusive message from someone on this board!
We are sorry to hear that. We have a zero tolerance for this and request that you plase contact us by clicking the -contact- link on the bottom right of this page and include a full copy of the message you received along with the username of the person who sent it to you. It is important to include as many details as you're able so that we can take action.
Question
What is the difference between the SENTBOX and the OUTBOX?
The OUTBOX shows what you has gone out from you to another member. The SENTBOX shows what of your messages have actually been viewed or read by the receiving person.
Question

Live Chat/Instant Messenger
What is Live Chat/Instant Messenger?
The Live Chat feature can be used to talk privately with one other person or may be used to invite multiple people into what is basically a chat room with the person who started the chat acting as a moderator. To use live chat, disable your popup blocker and click on the LIVE CHAT link on the left link menu. To chat with someone, click on that person's username in the live chat window to invite them to chat with you. If you are accidently ejected from a chat, you may click on its title where it says Enter or Re-Enter one of your chats. The title of a chat is a list of the users involved in the chat.

Safety
Safety Rules for Meeting Online
In terms of safety, meeting on the Net is inherently similar to meeting offline. As long as the same standard dating precautions are followed, RealChristianSingles.com members can feel at ease while getting to know each other. The main thing to remember is to trust your instincts and use common sense just as you would offline. Background checks, provided by services like BeenVerified.com, can be very helpful in helping you determine if the person you are considering meeting is legit. There's nothing wrong with doing your homework to make sure you are safe!

Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind.

Safety Rules for Meeting Online

  • Remember that you are in control of your online experience at all times. You can remain completely anonymous until you feel ready.
  • Never include your personal contact information in your profile, especially telephone numbers, email, home address or your last name, and only give them out when your instincts tell you this is someone you can trust. It is okay to take your time.
  • *Ask questions and watch for inconsistencies.
  • Stay away from members who will not take no for an answer or pressure you for any kind of personal information. Other singles will respect your space and allow you to take your time.
  • If someone asks you for money, please report the situation to us ASAP.
  • If someone gives you a phone number with a strange area code, check it out to make sure it is not a charge number before you make the call.
  • Please report any suspicious members, messages or postings to Real Christian Singles immediately. This will ensure your safety and the safety of other members.
  • Meeting Offline
You are also in control when it comes to taking an online relationship offline. Plus, you have an advantage online because you can get to know each other before you meet. Remember that you have no need to take anything further than the computer or phone wires until you feel completely at ease. Proceed at your own pace!

When you do decide to meet face to face-

  • Pick a public place.
  • Provide your own transportation to and fro
  • Tell a friend where you are going and that you will check in with them when you return home.
  • Using your own good judgment is your best bet, because ultimately you are responsible for your own experience. Trust your instincts and then have fun with the right people!

    Scammers and Abuse on RealChristianSingles.com
Real Christian Singles uses an advanced filtration system which automatically denies membership to suspicious registrants. This program blocks approximately 90% of all illegitimate membership requests. We follow that up with human review of accounts before registrants are allowed to use our site. Being that no system is perfect, a small percentage of these scammers may succeed in entering the site.

All public RealChristianSingles.com correspondence is monitored daily, and member profiles are scanned for fraudulent information. At the same time, it is possible for abuse to occur in personal correspondence. Therefore, we have developed an abuse report system to help us identify fraudulent profiles. A Report Profile link is located at the top right of every profile, and we ask our members to please report any suspicious members, messages or postings to us immediately. This will ensure your safety and the safety of other members.
